It is the responsibility of everyone in B1 to build a great space to work in!
One way to do this is to make sure B1 is a build up zone. You could help us by suggesting build ups we could use with friends and adults we know.
We also practice ways to deal with put downs.
You can help us to learn that, in life, not everyone will like us. That’s okay, that’s how it is for everyone.
We want to make our class a put down (Shark Bite) free zone so we talked about the put downs or 'shark bites' that we want to ban in our room. We sang a song about build ups and brainstormed things that don't make others feel good. Here are some of our ideas.
* Saying "I'm not your friend anymore." (Good friends don't change their mind about whether they are your friend or not.) "You're not coming to my birthday now." "You're stupid."
* Ignoring someone when they are trying to talk to you. (except when you are learning)
Ignoring someone when they are trying to choose you as a partner.
* Stomping about or pulling a face if you don't get what you want.
* Play fighting in someone's personal space.
* Telling a secret or whispering to a friend while looking at someone else.
* Showing off: "I got them all right!" "That was soooooooo easy" when someone else is finding it tricky.
* Being a spanner and stopping everyone else from getting on to the next thing. (Taken from the saying "a spanner in the works.")
* Pulling someone with you or getting grumpy when a friend chooses to play with someone else (It's okay for friends to say: " I'm playing with .... at recess but I will play with you at lunchtime." )
